A new study has found that the drug Retigabine is both a safe and affective alternative to patients who donât respond well to Epilepsy drugs currently on the market. Retigabine helps reduce seizures by opening up blocked potassium channels. The findings were published in the recent issue of the journal Neurology. The study took 399 patients and divided them into 4 different groups, all received different doses of retigabine for a period of 16 weeks, except one, which received a placebo. The study concluded that those who took the highest dosage, averaged 35% less strokes than before entering the study. This was higher than the 13 % drop in seizures experienced by the placebo group.
