When I was younger I often went to friendsâ homes after school and was there when their parents arrived home from work. Their usual routine was to walk through the door, kick off their shoes and pour themselves a drink. Theyâd usually have a couple before dinner, then another one or two afterwards. I didnât see it as alcohol abuse â after all, everyone did it, that was life in the suburbs â and I didnât think they needed alcohol detox. What I didnât know at the time was what the alcohol was doing to their live, and how that one factor alone would eventually affect their health and their quality of life.
